Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of social capital on the quality of life for the elderly.

Methods : In this study, 378 senior citizens aged 65 or older living in North Chungcheong Province were surveyed and factors were analyzed for variables and regression analysis and correlation between variables using the statistical program, SPSS 23.0.

Results : Social capital (¥â=0.320, p<0.001) was found to have a positive effect on the quality of life; social participation (¥â=0.176, p<0.01), networks (¥â=0.352, p<0.001) were found to have a positive effect on the quality of life; and networks had a greater impact on the quality of life than social participation. On the other hand, the confidence variable was shown to be a statistically insignificant influence relationship.Among the control variables, economic conditions and education levels, excluding age and sex, have a statistically significant effect on the quality of life for the elderly, with the greatest influence of economic conditions among them.

Conclusion : Social capital was an important factor in positively affecting the lives of the elderly. It should be reflected in future welfare policies for the elderly, considering that social capital formed through social relationships and participation as well as economic capital affects the quality of life. To enhance life satisfaction in old age, it is necessary to actively engage with children, relatives and neighbors, actively participate in various programs such as dementia prevention gymnastics carried out in the synagogues, and the quality of the elderly's life may have a greater impact when activities actively participating in local events and social group activities form social capital and combine with other capital. Furthermore, the establishment of infrastructure in the community to form social capital will have to be supported together
